Some vehicles come in for protection. Some come in for correction. The best projects are when both are done together — and this 2023 Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition was exactly that. It came into AZ Auto Aesthetics in Mesa for a two-stage process: paint correction to restore clarity and depth to the finish, followed by ceramic coating to protect and preserve it going forward.

Why paint correction before ceramic coating matters (especially in Arizona)
Ceramic coating is one of the best long-term protection investments you can make in the Phoenix metro — but it has one important limitation: it locks in whatever is underneath it.
If a vehicle has swirl marks, haze, oxidation, or light scratches before coating, those defects will still be visible after coating. In some cases, the gloss added by the coating can actually make imperfections more noticeable in direct sun.
The correct sequence is always: correct first, then protect.
What paint correction actually is (and what it isn’t)
Paint correction is the process of removing defects from the clear coat by carefully polishing the surface with machine polishers and diminishing abrasive compounds. Done correctly, it:
- Removes swirl marks and fine scratches from improper washing
- Eliminates haze and oxidation from UV exposure (common on Arizona vehicles)
- Restores depth and gloss to the paint — especially visible on dark colors like the Vantage
- Creates a clean, uniform surface for the ceramic coating to bond to
What it isn’t: paint correction cannot fix deep scratches that go through the clear coat into the base coat, paint chips, or gouges. Those require touch-up or refinishing first.
Ceramic coating after correction: what it adds
Once the paint is corrected and the surface is refined, ceramic coating is applied to lock in the result and add durable protection:
- Chemical resistance against environmental contamination (bird drops, bug splatter, tree sap, road chemicals)
- UV protection that helps slow oxidation — critical in Arizona where the sun is intense year-round
- Hydrophobic behavior that makes water bead and sheet off, reducing water spotting from monsoon rain and hard water
- Easier maintenance — coated paint releases contamination faster and requires less scrubbing
Why the Vantage F1 Edition specifically benefits from this process
Dark-colored vehicles show paint defects the most — swirls, water spots, and haze all stand out in direct sunlight. Aston Martins in particular often have deep, rich paint that looks exceptional when it’s properly corrected and coated, and noticeably dull when it isn’t.
In the Phoenix area, paint on dark vehicles degrades faster without proper protection because of the combination of UV intensity and extreme surface temperatures. Correction + coating done together is the most effective way to restore and preserve that finish for years.
Our process for correction + coating
- Wash and decontamination: Full exterior wash, iron removal, and surface prep to ensure nothing interferes with polishing or coating adhesion.
- Paint inspection: We inspect the paint under proper lighting to identify defect types and depth — this guides our polishing approach.
- Paint correction: Multi-stage machine polishing to eliminate swirls, haze, and surface defects. We work panel by panel to restore uniformity.
- Surface wipe-down: All polish residue and oils are removed so the coating bonds to a clean, uncontaminated surface.
- Ceramic coating application: The coating is applied and leveled panel by panel, then allowed to cure properly before delivery.
Considering paint correction or ceramic coating in Mesa?
If your vehicle’s paint looks dull in sunlight, has visible swirl marks, or feels rough to the touch, correction is usually the right starting point. We’ll inspect the paint and recommend the right level of correction before any protection goes on.
