Some vehicles come in for protection. Some come in for correction. The best projects are when both are done together — and this 2023 Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition was exactly that. It came into AZ Auto Aesthetics in Mesa for a two-stage process: paint correction to restore clarity and depth to the finish, followed by ceramic coating to protect and preserve it going forward.
Ceramic coating is one of the best long-term protection investments you can make in the Phoenix metro — but it has one important limitation: it locks in whatever is underneath it.
If a vehicle has swirl marks, haze, oxidation, or light scratches before coating, those defects will still be visible after coating. In some cases, the gloss added by the coating can actually make imperfections more noticeable in direct sun.
The correct sequence is always: correct first, then protect.
Paint correction is the process of removing defects from the clear coat by carefully polishing the surface with machine polishers and diminishing abrasive compounds. Done correctly, it:
What it isn’t: paint correction cannot fix deep scratches that go through the clear coat into the base coat, paint chips, or gouges. Those require touch-up or refinishing first.
Once the paint is corrected and the surface is refined, ceramic coating is applied to lock in the result and add durable protection:
Dark-colored vehicles show paint defects the most — swirls, water spots, and haze all stand out in direct sunlight. Aston Martins in particular often have deep, rich paint that looks exceptional when it’s properly corrected and coated, and noticeably dull when it isn’t.
In the Phoenix area, paint on dark vehicles degrades faster without proper protection because of the combination of UV intensity and extreme surface temperatures. Correction + coating done together is the most effective way to restore and preserve that finish for years.
If your vehicle’s paint looks dull in sunlight, has visible swirl marks, or feels rough to the touch, correction is usually the right starting point. We’ll inspect the paint and recommend the right level of correction before any protection goes on.
