2019 Mercedes-Benz C63S AMG — Two-Stage Paint Correction, Black PPF + Grille Refresh — Mesa, AZ

The Build

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz C63S AMG came to AZ Auto Aesthetics for a focused refresh: correct the paint, replace and upgrade the front end PPF, add black hood film to clean up cosmetic wear, and finish it with a black GT-style grille and badge swap to tie the whole look together. No ceramic coating on this one — just properly refined paint, upgraded protection, and a front end that now matches what the rest of the car deserves.

The Vehicle: 2019 Mercedes-Benz C63S AMG

The C63S is the top of the C-Class AMG lineup — a 4.0L biturbo V8 making 503 horsepower in a mid-size sedan that weighs under 3,800 lbs. It’s one of the last proper AMG V8 sedans before the electrification era, which makes clean examples increasingly worth maintaining correctly. The C63S has an aggressive front end — wide lower bumper, integrated splitter, large air intakes — that is both visually prominent and highly exposed to road debris at speed.

By 2019, a car like this has typically accumulated several years of real-world use: swirl marks and wash marring in the clear coat, minor surface defects from everyday driving, and aging PPF on the front end that may be yellowing, lifting at edges, or contaminated beneath. This car had all of that, plus cosmetic wear on the hood that the owner wanted addressed as part of the refresh.

Our Work

Step 1 — Two-Stage Paint Correction

Before any film or protection goes onto a car, the underlying paint needs to be right. On a vehicle that’s been driven for several years, that means addressing the surface defects that accumulate through normal use: swirl marks from automatic car washes, light scratches, haze in the clear coat, and oxidation on areas that have seen prolonged UV exposure.

A two-stage paint correction uses two rounds of machine polishing — a more aggressive cut compound in the first pass to remove the majority of defects, followed by a finer polish to refine the finish and restore full clarity and gloss. On the C63S, this process brought back deep, clear reflections in the dark paint that years of surface contamination had dulled. No ceramic coating was applied on this visit — the owner wanted the correction work done and the front end sorted, and the paint finish speaks for itself without a coating layered on top.

Step 2 — Front Bumper PPF Replacement with XPEL Ultimate Plus

The existing front bumper film was removed and replaced with fresh XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film. Old PPF that has been on a car for several years often shows contamination trapped beneath the film, edge lifting, yellowing, or loss of adhesion — none of which can be corrected without full replacement. Starting fresh on the front bumper means the newly corrected paint underneath is protected by a clean, properly adhered film that will perform correctly from day one.

XPEL Ultimate Plus is a 10mil self-healing film — it absorbs rock impacts that would chip unprotected paint, and the top coat self-heals minor surface abrasions with heat. On a front bumper that takes the highest chip exposure of any panel on the car, it’s the right call.

Step 3 — XPEL Black PPF on the Hood

The hood received XPEL Black paint protection film — a colored PPF with a deep matte black finish — to address existing cosmetic wear and create a consistent, clean look across the front of the car. Rather than attempting to touch up or re-spray paint that had seen wear, black PPF provides a fresh, uniform surface that also delivers real protection: impact resistance, self-healing top coat, and UV inhibitors that keep the black looking deep and consistent under Arizona’s sun.

On a dark-colored C63S, the contrast between the black hood and the body is subtle but intentional — it reads as a purposeful design choice rather than an afterthought, and it matches the aggressive character of the AMG treatment well.

Step 4 — Black GT-Style Grille + Badge Swap

To complete the front end refresh, the factory grille was replaced with a black GT-style unit, and the badges were updated to match — blacked out to tie the whole front fascia together. With the black hood film, black grille, and matching badges, the front of the car now has a cohesive, blacked-out look that complements the aggressive body lines of the C63S without going overboard.

This kind of detail work — where the visual elements are coordinated across multiple components — is what takes a refresh from “some work was done” to “the car looks exactly right.”

Why This Approach Works on an AMG

The C63S is a car that rewards investment in maintaining it properly. These aren’t disposable vehicles — they’re increasingly collectible, and a well-maintained example with corrected paint, proper front-end protection, and a thoughtful visual refresh holds its appeal and its value better than a neglected one.

The decision not to ceramic coat on this visit is also worth noting. Paint correction and coating are often sold as a package, but they don’t have to be done simultaneously. Correcting the paint first and evaluating the result gives the owner flexibility — the refreshed surface is protected at the front end with PPF, and coating the rest of the car is an option for the next visit when the owner is ready.

The Result

This C63S left with corrected paint, a fresh front bumper PPF install, a black hood that now looks intentional, and a blacked-out front end that ties the whole look together. It’s the kind of focused, well-executed refresh that makes a six-year-old AMG look exactly like it should.
